Match Play FAQ

Details:

  1. REGISTRATION CLOSES ON May 15
  2. Each player will get 75% of their Handicap for Match Play [e.g., someone with a 12 will play to a 9]. Apply 75% on your published handicap and then round up or down.
  3. Groups will be assigned through a draw where top n handicapped players will be scattered throughout the n groups in a flight and then randomly assigned a group. For example, in the event of 4 groups (16 players) in Flight A (lower handicap flight) top 4 handicap players will be randomly assigned a group, then the next four, and so forth. This will ensure all good players don’t end up in the same group.
  4. Competitors will play the Blue tees but not to exceed 6500 yds.
  5. The top two players from each group will advance to the elimination round based on points earned in a group match.
  6. Qualifying Round: in the event of odd-numbered entries the additional players will play a single elimination game to qualify for the group matches.
  7. Depending on the number of entries, we may have some groups with higher number of players.
  8. Group Matches:
    1. Everyone plays everyone else twice
    2. Higher ranked POY player gets to decide the location of the match (from the list of courses provided by the Committee)
    3. The date and time are to be agreed upon mutually.
    4. Ideally, four players in the group can play two matches on the same day (each round constitutes two matches) but not mandatory. So, three rounds can determine the outcome of the group over three different days.
    5. The winner of the match gets 3 points, ties get 1 point, and a loss no points
    6. The field shall be divided into groups of 3-5 players with lower handicap players in one flight, and players with a higher handicap will be in the second flight (divided by median)
    7. Group Matches need to be completed by August 15th.
    8. At the end of the group matches points will determine which two players proceed forward.
    9. Tiebreakers will be decided as follows:
      1. Winner of the heads-up match
      2. Winner by more holes differential
      3. POY ranking from the previous year
    10. The results of the Group Matches are to be communicated to ‘[email protected]’ within 24 hours of the match by the winning player with the other player copied.
  9. Wild Card Round: may be played in the event that we have more than 16 and less than 32 players registering. The number of players that will have to play the Wild Card round will be determined by the number of entries.
  10. Elimination Round: Each Flight group rounds will have their own elimination rounds.
  11. Players will play to the 75% of the handicap posted at the time of the match on www.dostgolf.org. The lower handicap player plays to a scratch while the other player gets the difference of the strokes on the hardest holes.
  12. No player will get more than 18 strokes per match regardless of their handicaps
  13. Competitors agree on the course (suggested by the higher seeded player POY), date, and time but it has to be a course on DostGolf rotation (the last 3-5 years). A no-show or failure to meet the deadline will result in a loss for the offending player. A player may reschedule once with at least 24 hrs notice for extenuating circumstances.
  14. Caddies are NOT allowed. Spectators are allowed but cannot provide any advice on strategy or play during the match.
  15. All the other USGA rules apply with any DostGolf exceptions as listed on the website.
  16. No one can register once the qualifying rounds have commenced – expected to start the week of May 18.
  17. Registration fees of $50 will go straight towards the pot with the top 2 finishers getting the prize pool with the winner taking home the trophy and 66% and the runner up getting 33%, 1% will go towards the standard admin fees.
  18. The Match Play Final to be concluded before the end of the season major.
  19. The commissioner may amend these rules in the interest of the league and the spirit of competition.

Example:

Player A has a 12 and Player B has a 24 index and they are paired to play. Applying the 75%: A will play to a 9 and B will play to a 18. So Player B will get a stroke each on holes marked 1-9 toughest on the scorecard from the blue tees.
